Due to the holiday yesterday, we moved our local history segment to today and our focus is a young teenager who was selected as the top Girl Guide in Kapuskasing.
Sixteen year old Kareen Paterson was presented with the Girl Guide’s Gold Chord at a Girl Guide Thnking Day Banquet at the Legion Hall. Her photo appeared in the Wednesday, March 8th, 1963 edition of the Northern Times.
Paterson had successfully accomplished all of her tasks required to secure the highest honour a Girl Guide can receive. She completed her three major phases Little House, Woodcraft and Camper Emblems.
Paterson told the Northern Times she had planned to stay in guides as long as she could to pass along her knowledge to other girls.
We thank the Kapuskasing Public Library for this and all of our contest for our weekly feature.
