A long time politician and volunteer with the Kapuskasing Flyers was presented with the King Charles the III Coronation Medal last Friday morning.
Mayor Dave Plourde who is celebrating his 31st year in municipal politics and spent eight years as president of U18 Flyers received the certificate and medallion from outgoing Algoma-Manitoulin Kapuskasing MP Carole Hughes.
Plourde was choked up when receiving the award.
“I didn’t expect be rewarded and you know volunteers don’t do things to receive the praise,” he said. “They just do it because they enjoy doing it because it’s really what we do. I’m speechless thanks for everything appreciate it.”

Plourde says he accepts the medal on behalf of those volunteers who were not nominated for their efforts.
“We have the greatest people in northern Ontario living right here in Kapuskasing so it’s not surprising to me that we have two of these medals within our community alone,” he said. “And there are so many more that are deserving of the same.”
