With the provincial election just being completed, we thought that we would feature a Federal Election from 1963 in our weekly look at local history.
Kapuskasing native Joseph Habel is on the front page of the April 10th 1963 edition of the Northern Times celebrating with friends and family his fifth straight election victory in the Cochrane riding.
Habel of the Liberals was elected by a resounding majority of more than two thousand votes over his nearest opponent NDP candidate Ross Patterson.
Habel was also elected to the provincial legislature in 1934 under Mitchell Hepburn’s premiership, and served three consecutive terms at Queen’s Park.
Our thanks to the Kapuskasing Public Library for their help with our week feature.
