The mayor of Hearst doesn’t mince words…. he’s frustrated and upset over the lack of proper communication Hydro One officials had with the community during the power outage on Monday.
Roger Sigouin says hydro employees were great at trying to resolve the situation but the communications and management teams seem to take their emergency situation lightly and don’t care about the north.
“It’s not acceptable 18 hours without electricity at 40 below no excuse that we did face on Monday,” he said. “Good thing we had a good group in place it was pretty hard for our people, our citizens going through this.”
Sigouin asked the utility company for something simple to pay for coffee and donuts for the residents at the warming station and they refused, stating it wasn’t in their policy to do so.
“Sorry the words but they don’t give a s….. about the communities in the north,” he said. “And I would like to have a person to come to our council and talk about that situation.”
The Mayor says several homes received damage as a result of the outage, but no injuries or loss of life.
