Timmins is the Ontario snowcross racing capital this weekend

There are a couple positive changes for this year’s annual Brent Secord Memorial Snowcross event in Timmins.

It runs this Saturday and Sunday at Hollinger Park, instead of the Spruce Street snow dump. Co-organizer Clint Chartrand says it will have a carnival atmosphere with beer, food, fire pits and fireworks.

And locals can participate in ditch banger racing. Chartrand says that involves classic snowmobiles.

“It’s kind of a cool class,” he remarks. “You’re able to race an older sled, come out, compete with your friends. We’re trying to put the community all together. Some laughs, some memories, stuff like that.”

Chartrand says up to 150 racers will compete in the pro classes.

“Racers come from all over Ontario, some from Québec, some do come in from the United States as well.”

Fireworks are set for Saturday at around 5:30pm. That’s followed by races, which also go on Sunday.

Kids under 12 get in free.  Adult passes are $45.00 a day or $60.00 for the whole weekend.
