Kap History – Grand reopening of Leonard’s Red and White Grocery Store

This week’s Kapuskasing history feature is all about food and the grand opening of Leonard’s Grocery Store on Brunetville Road.

A story from the June 19th, 1963 edition of the Northern Times reported about the new store being open for business in March of that year. The original supermarket opened its doors back in 1948.

The Leonard family was well known and respected in the grocery business and had lived in the community for many years. The new Kap store joined the other two locations one in Smooth Rock Falls and another in Moonbeam.

Twelve people were working at the Kap market.
