The town of Kap is taking another step towards forecasting the potential growth in the next 10 years. Mayor Dave Plourde says unlike the first survey that was focused on just growth and potential population numbers this new one will look at types of housing that might be needed.
“These are studies that are required when we apply for grants for certain portions of infrastructure for the ground to develop new housing in the community,” he said. “We have to be able to prove that there is a demand and this is just the document that is required to permit that.”
Plourde says he’s been meeting with large employers who have pointed out that they’ll need more housing for its workers.
A previous study suggested Kap’s population could grow as much as a 1,000, but Mayor Dave Plourde begs to differ.
“And I believe that is a very conservative number,” he said. “I think that everything that could happen does happen for Northern Ontario I think that at the number could be a minimum of twice that.”
