Notre Dame Hospital Foundation looking to purchase machine that tests for Carpal Tunnel

A device that tests for neuromuscular ailments like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the fundraising target for the Notre Dame Hospital Foundation in Hearst for next month’s Moose FM Community Cares Radiothon.

Project coordinator Francine Laberge says that having a new machine will prevent people from going out of town for testing.

“We use to have this piece of equipment but it’s outdated and people now have to drive to Thunder Bay to get the test done,” she said. “The test takes about 10 minutes. They can get surgery Hearst but in order to get tested to get the surgery you have to drive all the way to Thunder Bay.”

Laberge says $30,000 is the goal.

“People are awesome here in Hearst we feel the love and support – last year we had $47,000 I think on radiothon day which is amazing,” she said. “They care about their hospital and their healthcare system here in Hearst.”

The Radiothon hits the airwaves on Friday, Dec. 13 from 6 am to 6 pm. Donations in Hearst can be dropped off at the hospital lobby or you can call the foundation office and set up an e-transfer.
