A Kapuskasing man’s long walk to attend a celebration is the subject of today’s history segment.
Insurance agent Dalton Denault was going to walk from Kap to Timmins to attend the Jubilee celebrations. In a July 11th 1962 edition of the Northern Times, Denault said he had been training for three months for the walk and hoped to hit Timmins in three and a half day starting on July 24th.
In those days, there was no Highway 655 to go to the community so he had to go from Highway 11 to Municipal Road and over to Highway 101. Denault was to carry letters from the local Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor. He was being accompanied by a vehicle and small trailer so he could sleep every night.
