The Model Town’s official kick off to the holiday season is just a few weeks away. The Festival Of Lights is set for Friday, December 6th in Riverside Park starting at 6 pm.
Tourism special events coordinator Kelly Kraby says the only thing that might be missing from a big night is the white stuff.
“Well last year we didn’t have much snow either,” she said. “Not even a foot of snow on the ground so I hope it’s not becoming a tradition where we have a green Christmas but we need the snow this year.”
The lights will be turned on shortly after 6 pm following a ceremony at the Gazebo that will feature the Kapuskasing Jubilee Singers and Friends plus Santa Claus.
“One of the changes this year is we are going to be giving out the hot chocolate down by the bay at the bonfire just to alleviate some of the congestion on McPherson so we are going to direct people down by the bay,” she said.
There’s also going to be a scavenger hunt, and wagon rides.
Kraby says town crews have been tweaking some of the light displays in the park getting them ready for the big reveal.
