Warm Belly Kitchen and Food Bank notice uptick in numbers in Kap

The number of people getting a free hot meal, and using the food bank in Kapuskasing continues to rise. That’s the word from Warm Belly Kitchen Coordinator Amanda Rickard, who is also overseeing the Food Bank on an interim basis.

She says about 30 more people each month are coming out on Thursdays for lunch and believes the way they’re getting the word out is making a difference.

“It’s kind of a double edged sword,” she said. “I’m really happy that they are seeing us and they are able to come in and get a meal, but it also means we’re going to go through our funds a lot quicker with these increases.”

But she knows that the community will be there when it’s needed the most to help restock the shelves.

“You know if our community wants to help please take part in those food drives,” she said. “Those food drives are amazing for us. We have had food drives where we collect 1000 pounds of food which is a huge shelf filler, always accepting monetary donations and gift cards.”

There are two food drives going on tomorrow on Halloween – one at 103 Mill Street and the other at 40 Gurney Road.
