Routhier taking passion of strength training to participate in Strongman

A Kapuskasing native has taken her passion for strength training to another level. Chantal Routhier recently placed second in Women’s Amateur Division of the Canadian Strongman Championships and has been invited to a world event in Wisconsin next year.

She says former world champion Maxime Boudreault and his fiancé Sam Beliveau also of Kap inspired her to give it a try.

“And you know what I thought if she can do it I mean I can do it to or I can try,” she said. “So I reached out to her and asked if she did any coaching and she said ya. So I started training with her and she has been my coach ever since which was about five years ago.”

Strongman consists of five events from the deadlift, ascending log, arm over arm pull, sandbag run and atlas stones.

She says what helps keep her going and motivated is the support from her family including her two grandchildren.

“Well they’re saying my grandma is stronger than your grandma, laughing……No they are pretty proud actually,” she said. “My daughter who is now 24 she started strongman as well so she is following into my footsteps.”
