In Kapuskasing history we turn our attention to the October 19th 1962 edition of the Northern Times where fire chief Omer Poulin discusses fire prevention week and that educating school children is their number one target.
Poulin says six children were singled out and taught the fundamentals of how to handle fire equipment. Contests were also held for school children for the best poster painting and essay. A parade was even held by the fire department featuring school children and rescue equipment.
In a second article, several residents were questioned about their thoughts of Fire Prevention Week and they all believed it was important to remind everyone the dangers of simple things like making sure their basements are clean.
We thank the Kapuskasing Public Library for the continuing help with this weekly segment.
