Crow tests positive for West Nile virus

A dead crow in Porcupine Health Unit territory has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Public health inspector Kaitlin McCaw says the risk to the public is low, but it’s important to share the result.

The crow is the first bird to test positive since 2019, following one in 2006.  There have never been any human cases confirmed.

West Nile is transferred to humans and animals through a mosquito bite. Being bitten doesn’t guarantee symptoms.
