Anticipation is growing in the Model Town of the North for the biggest event of the summer: the Kap Kraze Tailgate Country Derby.
It’s built around a demolition derby on Saturday, July 27th outside the Sports Palace.
Tourism and special events coordinator Kelly Kraby says 33 drivers are confirmed so far in six categories.
“We have two new categories this year,” she remarks, “with the youth category, so 14 to 16; and women’s only category, and we’re getting a lot of participation in that category.”
The theme for the cars is cartoon characters or superheroes.
Kraby says the fun begins the night before that, with a tailgate party in the same location.
“We’re going to have fireworks that night. The food vendors are going to be open, the beer garden. We have the inflatables for the kids, so they can play until nine o’clock on those.”
Everything wraps up Saturday night with a country dance inside the arena.
