Manhunt subject now charged with murder

The accused murderer who was the subject of a three-week manhunt in the woods east of Timmins goes to court on Friday. Forty-three-year-old Lucas MacDonald was charged Thursdaywith first-degree murder and attempted murder using a firearm.

The search began May 23rd, following the discovery of the body of 30-year-old Marcel Thoma of Petawawa, in the bush near Matheson.  He had been reported missing five days earlier.

That’s why the murder charge was laid.  OPP say the attempted murder charge is related to the shooting of an officer on Wednesday, during an interaction with MacDonald on an island in Night Hawk Lake, in the rural east end of Timmins.

The officer is expected to fully recover.
