The Rock on the River music festival at Hollinger Park in Timmins is going ahead July 18th, 19th and 20th. Some social media chatter is indicating that it’s being cancelled due to poor ticket sales.
Not so, emphasizes Timmins Festivals and Events Committee chairman John Olaveson. But he is asking you to buy advance tickets. That helps the committee plan for proper amenities like toilets and food vendors.
“To put it into perspective,” he says, “we sold 6,750 tickets last year. Two-thousand of them were bought the last week. That’s almost a third of your tickets, right?”
A few tickets in the VIP section are still available for Thursday night; but Friday and Saturday are sold out. However, Olaveson says general admission tickets are better this year.
“We have a different configuration,” he chairman explains. “We’re using the park a little bit differently, because we’re incorporating the grandstands (at Hollinger Park). There’s going to be lots of room. Get there early and you’ll be right up against the barricades, watching your favourite band.”
