Kap weightlifter lifting her way to success

An 18-year-old female weightlifter from Kapuskasing says she loves to feel the power in her sport.

Cité des Jeunes student Naza Grant just came back from senior national competition in Halifax, where she placed third in the lift.

“I also did a personal best on it,” she proudly adds. “I snatched 90 kilos, just under 200 lbs., so that was a very exciting moment for me.”

Next up is the junior nationals in Toronto in a few weeks.  Grant says she aims to set some more personal bests, and repeat as champion. In addition, she’s anxiously waiting to hear whether she qualifies for the Commonwealth championship in the fall.

The member of the all-female Kapuskasing Weightlifting Club says she loves lifting heavy weights and feeling the power.

“Also, I compete at a club that is surrounded by very, very strong women. And it’s just so inspiring to see everyone and also my coach. It’s also very inspiring to see her lift.”
