A Kinsmen Club draw to help fund a new ambulance for Kapuskasing is the subject of our weekly look at local history.
A photo of the January 16th, 1963 edition of the Northern Times shows newspaper president and publisher Rene Piche purchasing the first ticket of the 129 club from Kinsmen club members Lloyd Glenn and William Webster.
The concept of the draw is simple as tickets are pulled one by one through the course of an evening until the last one who gets the big prize – in this case a 1963 fully-equipped sedan.
Other prizes included $2,000 in cash and $100 for the first ticket out of the bin.
We appreciate the Kapuskasing Public Library for their help with our weekly segment.
