Kapuskasing is playing host to a Strongman provincial qualifier on Saturday, April. 12th. It will take place at Rock Box Cross Fit on Brunetville Road starting at 10 am.
Organizers Wade Torok and Chantal Routhier say they were impressed with the amount of interest shown by out of town competitors and are expecting about 25 including six from right in town.
“Just want to invite everybody to come out on Saturday, Apr. 12,” Routhier said. “Come out and support us come and cheer on our athletes they work hard all year. This is not an easy sport, very difficult, very heavy, and the more we there to cheer them on the better.”
Some of the events include a log press, deadlift, farmer’s walk, and a sled push. Torok says some of the equipment have been created by hand and they’ve had to make some changes due to weather conditions.
The qualifier is part of Strongman Canada which is run by Kap native Maxime Boudreault.
Torok says a special one has been added where even fans in attendance can give it a try.
“Anyone that wants to try this out and there is going to be a hundred dollar cash prize for male and a hundred dollar cash prize for female which is being donated by Canadian Tire,” he said. “Francois Berube who is one of our members at Rock Box was very excited to come up with this idea.”
