Lumberjacks capture several NOJHL year-end awards

Several members of the Hearst Lumberjacks were recognized by the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s year end awards.

Adam Shillinglaw is the recipient of the NOJHL Trophy for Best Defenseman. Shillinglaw lead all NOJHL defensemen in goals with 21; points at 56; shorthanded goals 2 and four game-winning marker, He also tied for top spot in power play tallies among defenders with six The 20-year-old from New Liskeard, Ont., wrapped up his regular season career with 150 points in 201 outings, having scored 39 times and helping set-up 111 others.

Shillinglaw was also voted to the NOJHL First All-Star team.

Bronson Babyak won the Mitch Tetreault Memorial Trophy as the best defensive forward. In his final season of Jr. A hockey, the Saskatoon native collected three shorthanded markers and assisted on two others for Hearst, who led the league in that category with 14 markers and sat second overall on the penalty kill. He also set personal bests in overall tallies with 22; helpers at 25 and points, 47.

Forward Mathieu Comeau was chosen as the NOJHL Trophy’s best overall team player. The veteran forward has been a model of consistency during his four years with the Lumberjacks, performing at a point-per-game clip throughout. Comeau established single-season highs in goals (24); assists (43) and points (67), finishing fifth in NOJHL scoring. Eighteen times he had multi-point outings, with the Lumberjacks going an impressive 34-5-0-1 in games in which he picked up at least one point. … Comeau already sits in the Top 10 in career league-games played (210), with one final year of Jr. A eligibility remaining.

Comeau and fellow linemate Tyler Patterson were named to the NOJHL second all start team joining Head Coach Marc Alain Begin.

Goaltender Alexandre Boivin was selected to the NOJHL third all-star team and the first all-rookie team.  Forward Aiden Kalin was also chosen to the third NOJHL All-Star team.
