Big Winter Festiglace kicks off in Kap this weekend

There is a full list of activities planned for the first weekend of Big Winter Festiglace in Kapuskasing starting Friday.

There’s an Arm Wrestling tournament on Saturday and a kids carnival on Sunday. Tourism and Special Events Coordinator Kelly Kraby says one of the highlights is the family fishing day on Saturday.

“Down in the bay at Riverside Park, so we’re excited about that from 10-2,” she said. “You don’t need any equipment you don’t need an ice auger, or anything Kap River Walley Tournament and Friends are going to be there to help out anyone who doesn’t have that equipment.”

Kraby says pre-registration is required for some events and those that don’t have enough participants could be forced to cancel.

One of the cancellations has been the Winter Wonderland Parade that was scheduled for Sunday. It didn’t have enough participation.

Next Weekend’s activities include: sled dog tours on Friday, March 14th, and a Vintage Snowmobile Ride and Showcase on Saturday, March 15. Both are taking place at the Kapuskasing Golf Club.

Kraby says the lack of snow put a damper on it last year,

“So this year we do have snow so the sleds will be parading around the Kapuskasing Golf Club,” she said. “The Patio is going to be open so just come out and we are going to have a fire going. So just come out and check out those old skidoos and you can vote for your favourite ones and it’s going to be a good day hopefully a nice sunny one.”

A full schedule is available on the Big Winter Festiglace Event Facebook Page.
