A familiar face is returning to Queen’s Park as the MPP for Timiskaming-Cochrane. New Democrat Incumbent John Vanthof won last Thursday’s election by just over 1,600 votes over conservative and Iroquois Falls Mayor Tory DeLaurier.
Vanthof says this election was more difficult than others in the past.
“They were good candidates and it was really hard because of the question the Ford Government was running on wasn’t really a provincial issue right like Tariffs and Trade and President Trump,” he said. “They are on everyone’s mind but they are not directly a provincial issue.”
Vanthof says there was a lot of discussion about Highway Safety and Health Care with the lack of doctors in the north during the campaign.
He adds that he has lots of work ahead including one major priority.
“Is going to be to hold the government’s feet to the fire to actually make some moves that will make our highways safer immediate short and immediate long term,” he said.
