Today’s Kap History feature tells us more about the origins of the Model Railroad Club.
A May 1st 1963 edition of the Northern Times reported that the club’s first layout was constructed at 97 Devonshire Street in 1947 by Bill MacIntosh and Lachie MacLachlan.
Club members stated that it was obvious that more space was needed so Spruce Falls Power and Paper Company agreed to provide a bunkhouse on Byng Avenue. Just as the 14 members were going to pitch in and fix up the new home, it was moved again to Community Club in 1952.
During the year of the report in 1963 there was over 400 feet of track along with purchased and handcrafted rolling stock.
A special shout out to the Kapuskasing Public Library for their assistance with the newspaper archives for our weekly segments.
