Hydro One admits communication issue with town of Hearst during outage

Hydro One officials admit that the power outage emergency in Hearst could have been handled much better.

In an email to Moose FM News, officials said that the lengthy power outage was incredibly difficult for the community of Hearst and it should have better communicated with city officials.

The statement went on to say that the utility company cares deeply about the health and safety of the Hearst community and they welcome a conversation with Mayor Roger Sigouin and Council on how to improve.

Two faulty breakers and a broken insulator were the causes of that nearly 18 hour power outage in Hearst on Monday.

They say the outage affected just 328 customers at about 7 am but grew to an additional 466 later on in the morning.

Station crews were brought in from Timmins and Thunder Bay to work on the repairs while distribution employees from Kap continued to patrol the lines. Hydro One adds that residents were restored slowly in stages with the majority of customers back by 11 pm.

Shortly after midnight a broken insulator was discovered and the remaining 100 customers were back online.
