Our Kapuskasing history segment this week focuses on the early beginnings of what now is the Model City Mall.
A sod turning ceremony at the Brunetville Road location was featured in the May 15th, 1963 edition of the Northern Times.

Mayor Norman Grant and several dignitaries were there for the ceremony. The new 9,000 square foot shopping plaza cost about $100,000 to build and its anchor tenant was Nadeau’s Supermarket. A bank, dry cleaner and finance company were also to call the mall home that was expected to be ready by September.
We appreciate the Kapuskasing Public Library for giving us great content every week.
