Kap History – photos of a plane and a new sign for the town

A couple of photos featured in the archives of the Northern Times are the subject of this week’s look at Kapuskasing history.

From July 18, 1962 a large plane, the Friendship Fairchild, landed at the Kap Airport. The F-27 Turbo Prop Aircraft was owned by Continental Can Company. It had a cruising speed of 210 knots per hour and was based out of Morristown New Jersey. The plane carried company officials on a business trip.

Meantime, a photo that appeared in the paper nearly a year later shows a new sign at the entrance of the Model Town donated by the officers of the United States Air Force stationed at the Lowther Radar base. It was in recognition of the town’s close relationship with the officers.

Our thanks as always to the Kapuskasing Public Library for providing us with interesting content every Monday.
