The Cochrane District Services Board is buying a large commercial and residential building on Brunelle Road North in Kapuskasing across from both the Fire Department and the Sports Palace.
Chief Administrative Officer Brian Marks says DSAB will be moving its ambulance services from Sensenbrenner Hospital to the new complex that allows more space and makes it easier on the paramedics.
“Because we don’t want paramedics to go outside to get into the bay to get to the ambulance,” he said. “We would be looking to construct the bays in a way that can be attached the existing structure and there for can accommodate crew quarters and administration space for EMS.”
Marks says the closing date is in February 1st and that will give them time to explore future relationships with the current occupants in the building that include a radio station, a business and residential units.
“And that’s why this property was particularly attractive cause it has the residential-commercial that have income that could again offset those costs,” he said. “Actually the year end costs to municipalities is projected to be break even or zero.”
