The Town of Hearst is looking for some help from the province to fix up Claude Larose Recreation Centre.
Administrator Eric Picard says they’ve applied for a grant for $904,000 through the Ministry of Sport under the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund. He adds that there’s quite a lot of work to be done and something that the town isn’t prepared to cover the entire cost.
“So doors, toilets and the elevator,” he said. So all the exterior doors, all the toilets, ceramic ceiling fixtures within all the bathrooms and the swimming pool section as well as our elevator is constantly broken so we’re hoping to modernize it.”
Picard says the elevator is an older push model and it needs to be upgraded to the ideal modern pull style.
He adds it’s been a while since the Recreation Centre has been upgraded and believes that it will extend the life of the building and save money. The arena was built back in 1979.
