Two days of events in at Kapuskasing’s Riverside Park highlight the fourth Truth and Reconciliation Orange Shirt Day. It begins on Sunday morning with the opening ceremony and prayer lighting of the Sacred Fire at 10 o’clock.
Aboriginal People’s Alliance Northern Ontario Family Support Worker Josee Foster says she’s taken a different approach in organizing this year’s activities.
“We’re actually able to now officially hit all the components of the truth and reconciliation meaning like we’ve hit the First Nation, the Metis Part and also the Inuit Part.”
Foster says they’ve added several guest speakers including artist Vanessa Brousseau.
“She will be holding a red dress seal beaded workshop, and she will be doing various presentations over the two days to talk about murdered and indigenous women and what part of the truth and reconciliation it would fall into,” she said.
Foster invites everyone out to learn more and enjoy lunch and supper meals at noon and at 5 pm.
