Kapuskasing history: Chief wins medal

We have a lot of names to share in this week’s Kapuskasing local history feature.  They’re all from the February 21st, 1962 edition of the Northern Times.

Police Chief William Thompson was congratulated by town council for receiving a silver medal from the Police Chiefs Association for 25 years as a police officer.

The commendation was endorsed by Timmins Police Chief Gordon Beacock. In a letter to Kap council, he noted that Thompson joined the Timmins force in 1937 and served there until moving to Kap in 1951.

In the same issue of the paper was a photo of participants in a public speaking contest at St. Pat’s School.  You can see the pic and all the names at the top of this story.

Material for our history feature is supplied by the Kapuskasing Public Library.
