Town of Hearst seeking member-at-large for its OPP detachment council

The municipality of Hearst is looking for one member-at-large to join the local OPP detachment council.

Chief administrative officer Eric Picard says it’s a link between Town Hall and the OPP, who handles municipal policing in Hearst.  Detachment council meetings can have a lot of diverse items on the agenda.

“They can be complaints that are done towards the police; things that are happening in the community; areas that police should focus their attention on;” he outlines, “there’s a whole wide range of issues that we do tackle.”

There are at least four meetings a year. Picard says town council will look at the applications and make the decision from there.

“Historically, it’s been some people that have had policing knowledge or background, things of the sort, or just an active community member that has good ideas.”

You can get more information or apply for the position at town hall, via email or Facebook.
