Kapuskasing history: ‘Where is our pride?’

The Model Town of the North, for all its attractiveness, took a blast from the local newspaper on March 7th, 1962 about some of its not so attractive features.  That’s the topic of this week’s local history feature.

An editorial in the Northern Times carried the headline “Where is our pride?”

It takes particular aim at the signs at both the eastern and western entrances to Kapuskasing.

The one at the west entrance was, according to the editorial, shabby, decrepit and dull and the population figure on it was three-hundred less than the equally drab sign on the east side.  Thanks to the Kapuskasing Public Library for its help with our history feature.
