A 47-year-old Kapuskasing resident is one first-place finish away from being crowned Strongest Woman in Canada.
Chantal Routhier competed at the provincial level last weekend in Sudbury and placed first overall in a series of feats of brute strength.
“The competition was fierce. I mean these women are very strong ladies,” she remarks. “So it was a good competition, and I was very, very proud that I was bringing back to Kapuskasing a first place.”
Routhier moves on to the national competition in Moncton, N.B. in October.
“This is my first time going to nationals. I hear that the women are very, very strong, that this is quite another level. I’m going to train my hardest, I’m going to show up, give it everything I’ve got and we’ll see where we go.”
Routhier has only been competing in strongman (that’s what the sport is called) for three years, and belongs to a club in Kapuskasing, along with her 23-year-old daughter, Andrée-Ann Major.
