Kapuskasing’s national champion weightlifter is off to the Commonwealth Games in Fiji in September, and needs help to pay for it.
Eighteen-year-old Naza Grant qualified at the national championships in Halifax in May. However, the national organization provides no financial support for the Fiji trip, which Grant estimates to cost about $10,000.. So she’s asking local people and businesses to pitch in.
“Last year for India, we also did some fundraising,” she says. “We did a toonie drive. This one will be a little different. We’re sending out letters to businesses.”
Grant says any amount is welcome, if you want to be in on it.
“Contact my Mom, Natacha Grant – Natacha Lauzon Grant on Facebook, also probably my weightlifting club, Kapuskasing Weightlifting Club, also my coach, Kaylee Wedge.”
Grant just graduated from Cité des Jeunes. Even before going to Fiji for the competition from September 17th to 21st, she’ll be starting in the community and justice services program at Algonquin College in Ottawa.
