Army cadets don’t have to join the military

Recruitment is on for the 1635 Kapuskasing Army Cadets.

Commanding officer Captain Mike Oliver says there was once 35 cadets.  During the pandemic, membership fell to six, and it’s gradually growing.

Oliver says he hopes to instill in his cadets an interest in joining the Canadian Forces.  But they don’t have to. He says his mandate is to teach them to be good young Canadians.

*Oliver Cadets 1 “What they choose to do with what we teach them is entirely up to them. We put no pressure on them whatsoever to join the military.”

The cadet corps recently held its annual inspection and presentation of awards.
