The community of Val-Rita Harty will mark an important milestone next month. It’s the 50th anniversary dating back to when it was incorporated in 1973. CAO Jimmy Cote says the highlight will be a homecoming weekend from October 19 to October 22nd.
“A wine and cheese to start welcoming people back to the village with the elected officials, the MPs and MPPs,” he said. “And then the Friday, Saturday and Sunday family activities like bingos, parades, historical exhibits, family fun.”
Cote says the town has had so many accomplishments in the past two years that it’s important to showcase those as well as honour the past.
“Brand new water facility that will be starting with construction in early 2024,” he said. “We have the new Community Centre, children’s playground. We’ve been really busy, but we want to make sure that we do not miss an opportunity to celebrate this 50th.”
It is believed that a group from Foleyet were the first to call Val-Rita Harty home in 1922, but the incorporation didn’t happen until 51 years later. Full details of the anniversary celebrations will be available in the coming weeks on the town’s website.
