Today marks the 58th anniversary of Moose FM, formerly known as 580 CKAP Radio and AM 58. On July 31 1965 the station was the 75th to start broadcasting in the province.
Three long-time local business people, Miro Spacek, Al Gizuk and Bill Sheldon sat on the original Board of Directors.
It started off on the AM dial as 580 CKAP before being moved over to FM. The station began broadcasting at 24 Byng Avenue where it stayed for many years and later winding up at its current location on Queen Street.
CKAP Radio has changed ownership several times since the launch date and now it’s under the Vista Radio family.
