Bike Program Supported By Council

Kapuskasing is entering a partnership with a local counselling service to bring a bike program to the area.

The Hearst-Kapuskasing-Smooth Rock Falls Counselling Services requested the support of council to help offer a Bike Share Program in town.

The program would offer free bike rentals to local residents and visitors to town by offering the Welcome Centre as the base for renting the rides. The town would also be prepared to handle any minor repairs and maintenance to the bikes.

Mayor Dave Plourde says it provides another option for people in town and visiting.

“It’s a great initiative that not only presents a partnership that extends outside of Kapuskasing, it provides people that come to our community with an option, something to do on the time that they are here to visit.”

Plourde says they will start small with six bikes, to see what the reaction is.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for them to see the interest in that, I am pretty sure they will see a pretty huge amount of interest in that and expand at a later date, not sure when, but I’m sure they will definitely see a need for that.”

You would also need to be 16 years of age with proper government ID to rent the bicycles, and children under the age of 16 would need an adult to rent and ride.
