As negotiations continue at the top, postal workers in Kapuskasing are engaging in a strike.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers began strike actions this morning in Kapuskasing at 7:00am, turning the delivery truck away and beginning what could be a 24-hour strike until 7:00am tomorrow.
CUPW Local President Christine Lozier says the call came in last night to alert her that her local chapter would be striking this morning as part of their rotating strikes.
Lozier says as far as they know, all mail will not be delivered today.
She says they don’t want to see anymore rollback, and as mentioned prior in this contract they want to see health and safety issues addressed as well as precarious work.
As of now, CUPW National President Mike Palecek, Canada Post Interim President Jessica McDonald and members of their negotiating teams are meeting in Ottawa through a mediator selected by the government.
Lozier now will await further details either later this evening or by tomorrow morning.
